We are an Oxford based literary agency with an international reputation.

About Us

The Antony Harwood Ltd literary agency was founded in London in 2000 and relocated to Oxford in 2003.

We work with all the mainstream publishers in the UK and, through a network of the best agents in their respective territories, we co-agent our authors’ work around the world in all languages.  We co-agent our authors’ dramatic rights and original screenwriting in the film and TV industries on both sides of the Atlantic in exclusive association with Valerie Hoskins and Rebecca Watson at Valerie Hoskins Associates.

Meet Our Agents

Antony Harwood

Antony Harwood began his career in publishing at Chatto & Windus, starting in the production department, then running the publicity department before becoming a commissioning editor.  He had the pleasure and privilege during those years of working with many distinguished authors including Angela Carter, Hilary Mantel, Anne Tyler, Howard Jacobson and Iris Murdoch.

In 1985 he became a literary agent and was a Director of the Wylie, Aitken & Stone and Curtis Brown agencies.  In 2000, he felt the time was right to become an independent agent and he set up Antony Harwood Ltd, relocating the agency to Oxford in 2003.

Jo Williamson

Jo started working in children’s publishing PR in 1995 and after working at DK, HarperCollins and Orion she pivoted to become a literary agent with Antony Harwood in 2008. Since then she has built up a list of clients and enjoys close working relationships with her authors and focusing on building a long-term career for them.

Jo is looking for compelling stories with strong voices. More specifically, Middle Grade adventures that feel fresh, as well as laugh-out-loud fiction with an engaging central character and series potential. She loves myths and legends so is keen to find something that blends contemporary with mythology for MG readers. She is also looking for YA romance with a strong hook. Jo is actively building her list of adult fiction and would like to find women’s fiction, dark psychological thrillers, or a contemporary and funny romantic adventure.

She reads our new submissions and provides editorial feedback if she feels there is great promise but more work to be done.
